Nadine- nope, the comic is a result of "what if" conversations. My non-comic self is not the scamming-for-numbers type, for Haiti or otherwise.
I can't speak for the other guy, though!

Thanks for stopping by!

Abby,

I have been meaning to comment on this for days! About ten, in fact.

I just love this post: the thoughts on simplifying, scaling back, and how simple and easy are enough. Imagine how life would be if we just allowed it to be easy?
Oh, my.

I'm with you on the heels! And being an experienced practitioner does NOT make me immune to anything! I wear a pretty practical pair and ONLY at work. The rest of the time, including my daily lunch break walks, I'm in flats or half-inch platforms. I'm in NYC, though, walking constantly, and no matter what I wear on my feet, everything takes a beating- the few minute walks in my heels can sometimes feel like a break for my legs.
This is one of the reasons why I am SO thankful for my "formal" yoga practice, as well as my sneaky bathroom break yoga and my off-brand toe stretchers.

Love these "half" salutations. We must remind ourselves to integrate yoga into our whole day, whether in mini asanas like this or in the way we sit, stand, and move.

Heels! The furthest I go is platforms. I posted on high heels (http://yogaspy.wordpress.com/2009/10/30/who-wears-short-shorts-who-wears-high-heels/) and still wonder how women actually walk in them. In the Sartorialist blog, heels are de rigueur among a certain type of female fashionista, but what are the effects on feet and Achilles tendons, not to mention pelvic tilt and spine? You're an experience yoga practitioner and know how to counteract such effects, but the average chick...

As for practicing yoga on "dirty floors," what about these FiveFingers (http://yogaspy.wordpress.com/2010/02/02/barenaked-feet/) or those Yoga Toes?

I find that yoga reinforces my faith and my faith expands my yoga. They both work hand in hand to provide me with the anchor I need to negotiate life and fully experience all I can while on this wonderful journey. So glad you were able to explore Judaism and that it lead you back to yoga. You may be interested in this article on Mandalas for more ways that various cultural and religious traditions lead back to one another http://yogainmyschool.com/2009/12/26/mandalas-universal-across-cultures/

So appreciate your candid take on how yoga has fit into your life. I think that is the principle message behind the debate. I especially like the line "Some practices resonated with me, and some didn't. I let the ones that didn't work for ME fall away from my daily routine and teaching." This is what a personal yoga journey is - finding what works for you, being open to the process, changing as your needs change. The article Yoga Teaches How to Explore and Accept Life Changes also tackles this topic and shows how yoga adapts as we need it to, giving us a lifetime of insight into our personal journey.
